A Letter from Chris Geoghegan on Joining Ashby
5 minute read
I spent over a decade leading Product at Zapier. I'm not one to jump around between jobs, so when I decided it was time for something new, it had to be a company I could bet on for the long term. For me, that bet is Ashby, and I wanted to share more on why I'm making this my next long-term home.
I first came to Ashby as a customer and a user. As a functional leader, one of my responsibilities is to attract top product talent. I spend time reviewing candidates and inspecting interview loops. Ashby made that feel effortless and enjoyable. I remember thinking: The people behind this understand recruiting.
So when the opportunity to speak with Benji came up, I jumped at it. It didn't take long to realize the excellent product was no accident. Behind the scenes I discovered a robust platform, a deliberate culture, and a massive vision. I wanted to be a part of it.
1. An Enduring Foundation
It's rare to find HR software that is a joy to use. With Ashby it's different. The care and craft the team has for building software comes through.
Many startups scramble to get any sense of product-market fit. Benji and Abhik had a clear vision for what they wanted to build. This allowed them to invest in building an enduring foundation for an ATS with the best analytics on the market.
This foundation is also what enables the team to deliver and move as fast as they do. In the future, it's what will enable us to build and launch valuable new products for customers. It shows in the results too. The fastest-growing companies in the world already depend on Ashby.
2. An Empowered Team
In each conversation I had with an Ashby PM or engineer, it was clear the team owned delivery end-to-end. This is possible because Ashby recruits a team that is full-stack and multi-talented. Individuals spend less time in meetings and Slack. They spend more time delivering great software.
As I spent time with Benji, I felt a strong sense of alignment about how great products actually get built. By individuals who understand customer problems and own the solutions end-to-end. And the proof is in the velocity. The output velocity given the team size is impressive.
3. A Unique Vision
As I went through the interview process, I also uncovered an exciting vision beyond what is seen publicly. Today, Ashby is the best all-in-one recruiting software. For People and HR functions, the center of gravity is shifting away from being highly administrative functions and toward being the locus of talent attraction and retention.
The vast majority of existing tools silo data, don't scale, or feel like a burden to use. I'm excited to work with the team to expand this platform. To solve more talent-centered problems for the fastest growing companies. To build people software the people love to use.
What I'll Be Focused On
I'm joining a team that's already shipping at a high level. This means my first job is to build deep context on our product, customers, and team.
Next, I'll focus on improving how we operate as a product team. I'll help scale what's already working, grow the talent on our team, and drive consistent high-quality delivery.
Over time, as I build up the necessary context, I'm excited to help shape the long term direction of Ashby and expand the product and platform.
This feels like a pivotal moment for Ashby and I'm excited to be stepping into this role. The foundation is strong, the team is sharp, and the opportunity ahead of us is massive. I'm looking forward to building with this team for years to come.
And I’d love for more people to join us. Explore our open roles today.
