Ashby Launches the First ATS-Integrated Fraud Detection System

Over the last few quarters candidate fraud has quickly shifted from a rarity to a regular challenge. Remote hiring and new technology have lowered the barrier for bad actors, and talent teams are now regularly encountering applicants who aren’t who they claim to be.

Sometimes this wastes hours on inbound application review and interviews, sometimes it creates real security risks. Most talent leaders already recognize this problem and the big question over the last few quarters has been how to respond to it.

Today, we’re introducing the first fraud detection system built directly into an ATS - giving teams the ability to identify risks early, without slowing down the hiring process or adding friction for legitimate candidates.

Our Philosophy: Thoughtful Velocity

At Ashby, we’ve built our product strategy on a simple principle: velocity over rigid roadmaps. Instead of committing to features 12 months in advance, we adapt to the realities our customers face today.

Moving quickly to address customer needs is core to how we operate. But velocity can’t be at the expense of thoughtfulness.

Fraud detection touches every part of the recruiting process and can have implications across the entire business. Get it wrong and you either miss real fraud (expensive and risky) or flag legitimate candidates (reputation-damaging).

This is why we spent time working with the community to understand and work through this problem together, answering questions like:

• How are fraudulent candidates actually operating, and what makes them detectable?
• What signals provide reliable detection without creating false positives?
• How do we implement detection without adding friction to legitimate candidates?
• What should be automated vs made easier for reviewers to investigate?

This balance of speed and care shaped every part of our design.

What We Built

The result is the first fraud detection system fully integrated into an ATS - designed around a number of core tenets:

Companies determine their own risk profile. We provide signals, not verdicts. A startup hiring their first engineer has a different risk profile than an enterprise protecting sensitive data. We provide the information and your team decides what matters.

Signals over interpretation. Rather than a black-box "fraud score," we surface specific signals: location mismatches, identity verification issues, technical assessment anomalies. Your team can see exactly why a candidate was flagged and make informed decisions.

Zero disruption to candidate experience. All detection happens in the background. Applicants don’t need to take extra steps verifying or any other friction that might push good candidates away.

Multiple signal types that are inherently hard to spoof. We don't rely on a single detection method that fraudsters can learn to game. The system uses a collection of signals that would require significant effort and resources to simultaneously defeat.

Accessible to everyone, valuable to specialists. Recruiters get clear, actionable information without needing to understand the technical details. Security teams get detailed logs and signals for deeper investigation when needed.

Looking Ahead

Candidate fraud won't be the last sudden shift in the TA landscape. New challenges will emerge just as quickly. But by maintaining velocity, roadmap flexibility and partnering with the community on thoughtful solutions, we can continue building tools that address real problems in practical ways.
