Does AI notetaking improve feedback forms?

In September, we released Ashby’s AI Notetaker to help everyone involved in the hiring process record, transcribe, and summarize interviews. The aim, as with all our AI features in Ashby, is to design functionality that helps talent teams focus on the human side of recruiting — in this case, fully engaging with candidates while delivering higher-quality feedback.

To get a pulse on the early impact, we analyzed interviews from early adopters of AI Notetaker and compared their scorecard behavior to interviews conducted without it. The results show improvements in both speed and depth of scorecards.

1. AI Notetaker Speeds Up Scorecard Submission

When AI is used to take notes, efficiency gains appear within hours.

Across early adopters:

  • Within 5 hours of an interview: Scorecard submission rates are ~9% higher when AI Notetaker is used.
  • Within 24 hours: ~6% more scorecards are submitted with AI Notetaker (70% vs. 66%).

These early windows matter most. Oftentimes, when scorecards slip past the first day, they end up rolling into the next morning. This results  in 12–24 hours of lag for reasons unrelated to true evaluation time. By increasing the volume of scorecards completed while context is fresh, AI Notetaker improves operational velocity across the hiring loop. The impact is not simply time saved; speed in recruiting results in an improved candidate experience while maintaining competitive edge.

Here’s how one early user described the impact:

"Ashby's AI Notetaker lets us reduce the time spent taking notes manually, gather all our notes automatically, be more present and attentive in interviews, and submit feedback faster. We're no longer wasting time refining notes before submitting them!”

— Dorit Linevych, Global Technical Recruiting at Monte Carlo

Anecdotally, we’ve seen speed come through beyond the scorecards as well. Because AI Notetaker records the interview, debriefs become more tangible when everyone has access to the same experience. And in some cases, assessment can happen off the call recording entirely instead of adding another “we’d love you to also meet X person,” ultimately extending the hiring process and asking more of both candidate and interviewer.

“The recordings have played a huge role in improving debriefs. We’re able to take recordings from interviews with hiring managers or during panel presentations and review them with leadership during debriefs — whether pointing to a specific part of the call or as an avenue to hear directly from the candidate for those who weren’t involved in the hiring panel.”

— Dorit Linevych, Global Technical Recruiting at Monte Carlo

2. Scorecards with AI Notetaker Include More Detail

While word count alone isn’t indicative of quality of notes, we saw a clear pattern emerge: Interviews using AI Notetaker resulted in scorecards with ~44% more words. That said, this increase is often a reflection of the unique value AI can help secure by transcribing specifics and pulling direct quotes. And this additional detail is provided without sacrificing focus on the candidate, as we heard from a number of early users of our feature.

"What I love about Ashby’s notetaker is that it’s seamlessly built into the system - I don’t need to juggle between tools. From the moment an interview starts, I know notes are being captured, which frees me to focus fully on the candidate. On busy days, I have the peace of mind knowing I can return later and trust that the notes will be there. And because Ashby is already security compliant, I don’t have to worry about sensitive candidate information, which is absolutely critical.  The result is higher-quality feedback, faster hiring decisions, and a more consistent, fair process that raises the bar for our entire team."

— Dasha Nikolov, Technical Recruiting at Supabase

Overall, these early signals point to a simple pattern: When interviewers can stay focused on candidates and rely on AI for the mechanics, the entire hiring process benefits. Teams move faster, feedback improves, and decisions become more grounded in shared context. We’ll continue exploring how AI can meaningfully support the human side of hiring as more teams adopt more AI features in Ashby.
